Hi, first time post so be gentle with me.
I'm a Grpahic Designer and until recently was only rarely responsible for setting up artwork.
I am currently producing artwork files for some CMYK POS. I have been given the trapping values by the printer and have commenced adding in the trapping areas in the standard way as set out by Adobe (i.e. adding strokes of the desired colour and setting to overprint).
However, I am experiencing some issues. I have a four colour red and a four colour gold from my client's colour palette. The red will overprint fine, no matter what it is placed over (colour panels and photography), but the gold will not do the same. In fact it just won't overprint at all. If I set the swatch to spot instead of process it will work but I fear this will cause problems at output.
I tried creating a completely new colour with similar values (c40 m30 y70 k10) but exactly the same happens. Oddly, the problem seems to be the magenta in the colour. If I strip this out it will overprint anything. If I put the magenta back in but remove one of the other colours it still will not overprint.
Apologies if I'm missing something very basic, as I said I'm not an artworker, but any solutions would be most welcome as I have to send this to print tomorrow.
Unfortunately the printer is the clients, is rather unhelpful and does not speak very good English, otherwise I may have started there!
Would using multiply solve the problem for this? It appears to but I'm worried this may cause problems for the printer.
