I'm working with a file, you can download here:

So I hired a guy to create a logo for me and he delivered an AI file. I own AI CS3, and it was able to load his file even though he used a later version.
I have two questions:
One thing I want to do is select a few individual letters and move them. But when I click on any part of any letter, the entire image (all letters and the border box) gets selected. I thought, "Okay, they must be grouped," but the Object->Ungroup option is grayed-out. So how do I select just one letter?
Note: I was able to ctrl-click and select just some parts of the image, but I wonder if that is the right way to do it. I don't understand the state that this file is in, that regular clicking would always select everything.
Next question is that I don't understand this border box, what appears to be a box surrounding the logo. When I ctrl-click on it, and then drag one of the corners, the visible box doesn't change size. I want to make it larger so that I can add more words to the logo inside the box. I really don't understand what it is doing there... is it an outline around the working space of Illustrator?
Thanks,
Mike
