create a symbol with appearance fx and scale?

Hi everyone. I have create a button with gradient high / low lights. stroke and curved edge, all built in the appearance pallette. I then saved the graphic as a symbol. I would like to use this on other artwork. But for some reason when placed in other files, if I scale (all the documents have the prefs scale fx). The symbol doesnt keeps its shape? Even is I expand the round edges it still seems to be a problem.

I can place the illustrator file into illu and scale this way, but why isnt the symbol keeping the fx settings?
