I am posting this in the illustrator forums because that is the program I use the most. The issue is actually present in both illustrator and photoshop. Possibly others too, but I have not checked.
When I create an element and alter the color to a gray it shows up tinted. For example I created a rectangle with a fill of #aaaaaa, which should be a light grey, but instead I get something closer to #94927d (as rendered by google chrome browser).
If I save the file as a png and view it in a browser the colors appear correct. If I open the file in Windows Photo Viewer the colors appear the same as in illiustrator. Other native photo viewing apps show the colors as they appear in browsers.
Normally I would think this was a monitor calibration issue, but the fact that the colors appear correctly in some programs and incorrectly in others has me confused.
How do I fix this?
Details:
OS: Windows 8.1 x64
Adobe programs: Illustrator CC v17.0.0 (64-bit), Photoshop CC v14.1.2 (64-bit)
Browsers tested: Google Chrome Version 31.0.1650.57 m, Firefox 25.0.1
Edit: I just tried re-calibrating my monitor, but everything was calibrated correctly.
