A huge amount of 'annoying lines' that might be clipping masks (?)

Dear Illustrators,

I'm new to illustrator, and I have a question, whichI hope is a stupid one with an easy answer.  I need to do some work with a bunch of graphs were exported from another program. They are saved as pdf-files, which I subsequently open in Illustrator.  I'm using both Illustrator CS5 for Windows and Illustrator CS6 for Mac, and there appears to be a huge difference between these two when I open the exact same file.

When I open the file in Illustrator CS6 for Mac, I get my 12 graphs on the screen, but they some with a huge amount of lines surrounding them. I think I figured out these lines are 'clipping-masks', which I can delete, but the problem is that there are SO many, that I spend a great amount of time deleting these lines, especially since I need to be very careful in order not to accidently destroy (parts) of my 12 graphs.

I used to think these lines were just an annoying 'artifact' from the program that exported the graphs. But here is the big surprise:  When I open de exact same file in Illustrator CS5 for Windows, I get my 12 graphs nicely on the screen without any of the annoying lines, and I can go directly to work!!

Am I missing something here? Can these lines possibly be 'deleted' (or turned off?) in CS6 for Mac. In there a default setting that is set-up differently between these two versions?

I included some screenshots.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
