Illustrator, Indesign or user (me) problem?

Not sure if this is a Illustrator or Indesign or me problem.

Created a shape in Illustrator (CS5.1) saved as a .eps, black stroke, white fill,

then placed into Indesign (CS5.5), problem is that the white fill of the circle

shows the colour of the box or image underneath (see attached),

I'm I forgetting to do something? I have tried it with other colours

and the problem does not occur, just the white fill.

Any help/guidance will be appreciated.
