Hey everyone! I hope you're all having a great day. I've got an issue (unfortunately it's a real whopper!) concerning colors.
My color profiles don't seem to want to get along. I just bought a new ASUS laptop with the system default device color profile of sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (from control panel/display settings/advanced settings/color management). When I open a new Illustrator file and go to create a gray shape using one of the default swatches in the 'Grays' swatch group (C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=70, for example) I end up with a brown.
I've selected the color profile that seems to have come from my display manufacturer (ASUS_17440019) in Illustrator's color settings window) and it seems to fix the issue - my grays are gray again. But what I'm confused about is when I open a document with a different color profile, the greys are brown again - even when I convert to my current proflie. The only thing that keeps the grays as gray is if I choose 'discard color embedded color profile (don't manage color)'. I should add that said file is in the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color profile and my working profile is that previously mentioned ASUS_17440019.
How do I get better control over my colors? Is there a tutorial on color management that I can find somewhere? (we don't really learn much about it in school, to be frank) How will this effect printing - will I have to know the profile of my chosen print shop in order to preserve my colors? I know that was a lot of questions but if there's anyone out there patient enough to give me a thorough response, I'd be greatly appreciative of you! I might even bake you some cookies, Haha!
Best wishes,
-Ernie
