Hello all.
I am looking for a solution to a problem that is bothering our studio. We have a certain set of custom, commonly used files filed in a folder on our servers. Artisits are supposed to navigate to this folder to ensure they are grabbing the latest files (the resources are sort of living/evolving files). The problem is that some artists are just dragging those files to their desktops and using them from there to save time. This practice has gotten us in some trouble with the client because out-of-date resources have been used on multiple occasions. This is still happening no matter how many times we stress to the artists to use the server files only.
What we have been trying to do with no success is to somehow mount a button in the Illustrator Application Bar or perhaps create a custom window/pallet which will link to this specific folder on the server inside of Illustrator. This would make it easier for the artsts to get to in the first place and would ensure they are using the correct files. If we can figure out how to do this then we can build an action for our collect/release team to run which will also help us catch it on the back end before the client sees it. We have tried using Bridge to navigate there, but it is much faster to just jump to the server from the finder. Can a similar Bridge button be created to link to just one folder in a specific location?
Does anyone know if there is a way to create custom pallets/windows in Adobe Illustrator - even through plug-ins or scripts or however else? We have some 3D software which allows us to basially recreate the entire user interface if we desired and it is quite simple. If this was a possibility in Illustrator it would be hugely helpful to us.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thank you.
P.S.
We are on a Mac platform.
