I'm in the stroke window, trying to add arrowheads to a line but i get this message when i click the arrowheads drop down. The file "Arrowheads.ai" is in an unknown format and its styles cannot be imported."
When i click thru it, i get an empty arrowheads window. all the presets are gone. Any ideas on how to restore this file? I dont think I ever modified or touched it.
I have been preparing artwork and printing for screen printing for several years now. I completed a new design and have run into a major issue I've never seen before! I have parts of the spot color blue "hidden" behind text. When seen in the overprint preview, the parts behind the text should NOT print. However, everything that is behind the text is wanting to print. (Preview below). Here are some facts about my document:
* The document is set up for CMYK
* The spot colors are setup as color type: Spot Color and Color Mode: CMYK (Like I always have)
I have tried moving this design into a new document, changing the blue to process and back to a new spot color, completely redrawing the blue, changing to a new spot color, etc and ALL efforts have produced the same result. Furthermore, when I move the blue in front of the grey, the hidden parts of grey disappear as they should! Bizzare.
I'm LOSING MY MIND over this and have a VERY soon deadline. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

I'm having an issue with Adobe Illustrator CC 21.1.0 crashing when I have a file open already but I got to double-click another Illustrator file. Strangely enough, File > Open does not cause the same crash. This is on Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
Any pointers on how to start troubleshooting this?

Hi all,
Several people have noted that they are interested in the GCMI swatch library I created a couple years back. I am re-posting this information to help out those that need something like this but who have't stumbled upon the thread. (Took me about 10 minutes to find the original thread myself.) But first—
NOTE: BIG HUGE DISCLAIMER!!!!!!
The GCMI palette is only *MY* interpretation, and is not an actual color palette provided by the Glass Packaging Institute (the makers of GCMI books). Here's how I created my GCMI palette:
I used the GCMI swatch book on mottled white (version IX). I shot each color in the book with an X-Rite 939 spectrodensitometer, and a corresponding PMS color would come up. For instance, GCMI 10 was formerly PMS 115. In some instances, there were very similar blues for example, and they'd register as the same PMS match. In that case, I used the ol' eyeball to pick a color from a Pantone book that looked darn close to the GCMI swatch.
So! These GCMI colors are for representation only; they are not to be used for their *L*a*b values or anything. If your ink vendor sees a file that uses GCMI 10, he'll use the GCMI 10 ink for the job (rather than using the CMYK values etc.)

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my question.
I am at an internship and I recently created two logos on two separate art boards for print. I saved my native file as both PDF and EPS last night. However, upon opening both the PDF file and the EPS file today, there is significant data loss- most of what I had created did not show up.
I tried fixing it and then resaving my native file again as a PDF, but I received the following message:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action- please install program or, if one is already installed, created an association in the Default Programs control panel."
Again, also, the resulting PDF has a loss of data.
I am wondering if I have a possible virus on my PC from downloading fonts to be used in my artwork? Or is it because I need to do something with my layers?
Any help on this situation would be much appreciated. Again, thank you for your time and take care.

I recently started a trial of Illustrator 2017.1.0 and upon application launch, strangely the UI is blank and unusable, there's no exit button either, I have to force close Illustrator please see attached screenshot:
Meanwhile, Photoshop 2017.1.1 works perfectly.
I'm on Windows 10 x64 1703, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 running 3840x2160@60hz.
I am having some trouble with maintaining page size (artboard size?) of .pdf's that I create using Illustrator. I made an illustrator document with an artboard size of 57.5 x 12.5 inches, and I need it to be printed at that exact size. However, when I save as a .pdf and view the page size in adobe reader, it says the page size 22.64 x 4.93 inches. What am I missing when I am saving my file as a pdf that is causing the page size to change? Thanks in advance!
My friend and I use AI daily to produce vector artwork. We have completely different PCs in completely different environments, yet we both have problems with AI's performance.
I have an i7 5820k processor, 32GB or RAM, 2TBs (2x1TB) of SSDs in RAID 0, and Nvidia GTX 970 graphics all running on Windows 10 Pro 64bit. I should not have performance problems like this. (He has an i7 based laptop with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD.)
I do have GPU performance enabled.
When we first open files, things go fairly well, but the longer they are open, the worse it gets. It's slow, sometimes becoming unresponsive, and sometimes never becomes responsive again. The interface will stop responding, yet sometimes I can still save even though it doesn't appear to be saving. I can then kill the task and start it back up. Rinse and repeat.
Today, for example, I left a file open when I went to lunch. When I got back, I couldn't do anything. I had to close the program, which took about a minute to finally close, during which time my entire PC becomes sluggish until the program closes.
If I open a file and immediately close the program, it closes fairly quickly. The longer it's open the worse it gets. Which seems like a memory leak or something, but if I check my memory usage, it's not even half used.
Being that the two of us have such different set ups, it kinda points to AI being the problem, but even after a couple of updates, it still does it and we don't see a lot of talk of it on the web.
Is anyone else seeing this???

Okay so I'm currently working on a logo for a client. I've been using clipping masks to give the text and rose image a glittery/shiny texture.
I've got onto the roses and I feel the outline of the rose is way too thin.
I created the Rose by image tracing a drawing and then clicking expand and then used a clipping mask on it. I want to make the glittery/textured outline of the rose thicker so it can be seen more and it stands out. Is there a way of doing this? Can someone assist?
This is my first time posting and although I've studied graphics for many years, I'd appreciate any responses in layman terms (its been a long week lol!)

Im having trouble getting getting the ends of stroke the way I want them. Im trying to have a 45 degree stroke have a clean horizontal cut at the end, I cant get it to work so for now ive been using white blocks to cover the parts I want "cut" but of course when I want to convert the image to PNG for a logo design the white blocks are shown.. so my question is... how do I cut the ends of strokes to my liking?
So I have done some research and it seems like this is a long standing problem with Illustrator. When you create a swatch, it will auto adjust to fit in the documents color mode gamut.
This is frustrating as my company has both CMYK values and RGB values listed for artwork and marketing material. I want to create a User Defined color library with BOTH the CMYK and RGB swatches already setup. But I guess that is not possible.
Will someone explain the logic by Adobe to have Illustrator do this? InDesign doesn't and only when you are saving the file for a specific purpose will you see color mode warnings. I would think that if you create a swatch, then it should stay how you set it in the first place.
I assume that I will need to create a CMYK document, setup the CMYK swatches and then do the same in an RGB document with the RGB swatches. Seems like a lot of unnecessary work.
I recently downloaded some adobe stock fonts to use in creating Snapchat filters for my sister's wedding. The only problem? They're not actually fonts just paths. I know I need to typeset them to turn them into an actual font but I have no idea how. I've tried to find tutorials on adobe and explanations on the forum but haven't found anything that actually tells me how to do it. PLEASE HELP!!

So I am importing a .png file I have saved into Illustrator. The image is a white logo with a transparent background. Every time I trace the image it either does not show up, and when I save it as either a pdf or eps file it appears as just a white blank page. I know that the trace tool does not support transparent backgrounds and it doesn't make things easier that I have an object that I want to work with that is completely white. Is there any way to make this easier? I watched many tutorials and I feel like I am following every step correctly but it is not coming out right. My png files that I have look exactly the way I want them to, however they are just not vector files since I plan on using this to print large commercial sineage. What can I do to fix this? I have switchted from Illustrator CS6 to Illustrator CC ( and the whole creative suite) since a few weeks. I really have to get used to a whole lot of new functionalities.
But something really has started to annoy making me want to revert back to CS6. I am working on a very simple and totally NOT complex illustration involving just some transparency gradations. But the vector starts to break down everytime I try to zoom in/out or move around with the hand function to examine the shape.
Why is this happening? Do I need to reinstall my Illustrator CC? Update my graphical card? Reformat my Mac? Or are there settings I need to adjust in Illustrator so my screen/pixels aren't dying?

Win 7 pro, Illustrator CS6. Q: My illustrator version works fine but I find it annoying that I have to import my standard svg filters every time I open a project or start a new one. How can I get Illustrator to load the filters every time I start the program? Thanks for any help in advance.

Using Ai in class, after I would draw and set a color to the shape, I would draw again and it would default to that last used color.
On my new Ai account at home, I draw and set a color, but when I draw again there is no color whatsoever so I have to keep manually selecting the color.
How can I set it to default to my last used color!!???
