Adobe, your products suck

I have used Adobe products since Illustrator 88. Since then, each successive release of the top 3: Photoshop, Illustrator, and later on, InDesign has become more bloated, buggy, slow and frustrating to use than the previous version. Unfortunately Adobe is the de facto standard for creative professionals and we are at their mercy. Note I am currently using current CC applications in my workflow on a brand-spanking-new hyper-fast Mac tower.

 

Take Illustrator, for instance. I've lost count of the times I see a spinning beachball and have to wait for a few seconds just to select and move a square. With NO OTHER SHAPES in a document. A square. Seriously Adobe? Illustrator also takes an inordinate amount of time to save a file to disk that's only a few hundred K in size. I'd expect a 1.5 GB file to take a few moments, but a few hundred K?

Illustrator is also prone to crashing daily. Sometimes more than once. Or failing to open a simple file with a "not enough memory" error. What, 64GB of RAM isn't enough? I didn't realize today's computers choked on 8MB vector files.

 

I have time to write this post because I'm currently waiting for Illustrator to launch in "Safe" mode. It's been stuck on "Diagnostic Test 15 Checking Preferences..." for the last 45 minutes. I suspect it's locked up and I'll have to Force-Quit it and relaunch. Only to continue to get stuck in diagnostic mode. Thanks for a buggy diagnostic mode, Adobe! You're really swinging' for the fences!

 

If the creative professional space wasn't so Adobe-dependent I would dump it in favor of some of the alternate, and better, options out there.

 

Oh yeah, Creative Cloud SUCKS! I don't want every damned color I select and shape I paste to become a library object! Let us turn off the "features" we don't think are necessary for our workflow!

 

Back to *trying* to work on a file to meet a Monday deadline...

Swatches disappearing whenever i close illustrator

Hello guys i have weird problem with Illustrator:

 

I was working on a document and i did save some swatches in the swatches palette for later use, for example True black or cmyk "black" 0,0,0,100 etc. I would like to keep those colors all the time. But when i close Illustrator and then open it again, the colors i saved before dissappear, they dissapear even when i open previously saved document i worked on. How i can fix that?

Copy/Paste Crashes Illustrator

Hi, I am currently struggling with Illustrator crashing constantly. ctrl +c or Ctrl + v both do not work and crash the application without any information why. Also using the menu items (copy or paste) crash the application. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, cleaned CC, checked my fonts folder, removed preferences. Everything I find I have been trying with no luck. I also went down from the 2017 version to 2015.3 still no dice. This has been happening ~2 weeks so I removed anything in that time frame from my pc. Any other recommendations?

Exporting issue: Size of image becomes larger

Hi there,

 

I have a question: on illustrator when I choose a dimension for say 1200 px by 628 px, why when I export the image the it becomes larger than it is?

I exported as jpg and the dimension becomes 5000px x 2617px. Why is this? how can I fix this?

 

In new documents in the Advanced section: I have Color Mode as CMYK and Raster Effects: High 300 ppi

 

When I export it:

Color Model: CMYK Quality: Medium

Compression Method: Baseline Resolution: High 300 ppi Anti-Aliasing: Type Optimized

 

Is it an issue with the way I set my settings? How do people for the Adobe Illustrator community normally export their files to be the exact size they want it to be?

Illustrator randomly selects unrelated objects

About once  a day, when I click on an object with the direct selection tool, the bounding box will be way larger than it should, implying another object on another artboard is included in the selection.

 

This happens when the object I am selecting is NOT grouped with anything else. Moreover, is seems buggy because the mystery object doesnt have its "edges" visible the way it would if it were legitimately selected.

 

I can deselect all, but then anything I click on, the selection's bounding box is expanded to include the mystery object. The only way I have found to deal with it is to drag a corner of the bounding box, then undo, and then click off again. Then Voila! I am able to select my object (or any other) without the mystery selection happening.

 

I use clipping masks a lot, as well as many artboards, and have wondered if it's related to this, as the mystery objects are sometimes masked images, and often on another artboard. However, the mystery objects are not always masked.

 

Anyone else having this weird problem??

 

I had it with CS5, and hoped it would go away with CS6, but it has not.

Hide system fonts in font menu?

I want to hide all the system fonts I can't deactivate in OSX as I don't use them and they just clutter my font menu. Is there a way to do this? Thanks!

What Logos Are Needed in A Style Guide

Hello,

 

I'm assembling my first style guide and have run into a few questions I can't seem to find answers to. I want to make sure I'm giving an adequate amount of files types for use with web and print and not putting in the extra work for something that is irrelevant.

Right now I have:

 

RGB:

Logos in Black, White, Greyscale, Color. Each color has the following files:

".ai", ".eps", "transparent .png at 72 dpi", ".jpg"

 

CMYK:

Large & Small Versions since we print on a variety of things like banners to books.

".ai", ".eps", "Hires transparent .png", "jpg"

 

PANTONE:

Large & Small Versions

Logos in Black, White, Greyscale, Color. Each color has the following files:

".ai", ".eps", "Hires transparent .png", "jpg"

 

I think the main thing is, is it necessary to have separate logos sets for white in RGB, CMYK, and PANTONE? I see there is a set color for Black that should be used for each but with white generally being the absence of color when printing can I just get away with having one white set? Is there anything else I could be missing?

assets export panel assets with clipping paths not exporting correctly.

I have a simple image with a clipping mask applied. I can either choose to add it to the new Assets Export panel or select it and right click and choose export selections. Either way, the exported PNG (in this case) does not crop to the clipping path. The image being masked is what is setting the exported PNG size with transparency to the clipping mask shape. See the attached image. Masked out one pastry from a large group but the export is surrounded by transparency that is the size of the masked image and not the size of the circle mask.

Anyone have a solution for this? Asset 9.png

Offset Path Units

It would be helpful for offset path measurement to be standalone from the general preferences. For example, ruler measurements could be set to inches while offset path units remain points.

Learning to Paint and Draw with Illustrator

2-finger scroll issue in Illustrator CC 2017

Hi!

 

I'm working on Acer Swift 5 PC laptop. This is my recent purchase and I never worked in Illustrator without a mouse until very recently. That's where the issue was discovered.

 

When I'm trying to 2-finger scroll in Illustrator, it works fine in directions right and down, but it doesn't properly function when scrolling up and left. (It is impossible to clearly explain the behaviour, so here goes a small video that I recorded to show what's going on.)

The issue arises only in Illustrator, other Adobe and non-Adobe products work perfectly fine. All the software I use is updated to the most recent versions available.

 

I'll be happy to receive any feedback on how to have this fixed.

Fastest Way to Add Stroke/Path to Outside of Logos

Hello,

 

I have 300 logos I'd like to add an outside Stroke or Path to. The only way I know is time intensive, select all elements of logo, copy, paste, unite paths, put new full shape in the back of logo and add Stroke/Path. This is labour intensive and it will take me a long time to do this to 300 logos.

 

Is there a faster, less step intensive approach?

Re-Setting Units in Preferences Only Works for Open Document

Hi,

 

When i open a new document and change the units preferences for a document on a Mac in Illustrator > Preferences > Units > General > Pixels, whenever I then open or create another document the units has reverted back to millimetres. 

 

How do I set it up so pixels is always the default measurement Unit?

UI is tiny and files can't be opened

Hello together,

 

I started Illustrator today and I'd realized the title bar was incredibly tiny.

Not just small, absolutely tiny - as you can see in the screenshot below.

In contrast to this the starting screen itself has normal size as you can see, but the title bar and all windows in Illustrator have this problem.

Additionally I can't open any file, because I get a message box saying it's not enough memory to open file, which I think is caused by the UI problem.

My question is simple, even when the solution isn't: How can I fix this?

Add Scripts to Script Menu?

This may not be in the correct area but is it possible to add script in the Main script dropdown?  Right now in order to get to my script i have to go to file>Script>Other Scripts.  I want my scripts in File>Scripts.  Is this possible.

Curved line effect

I have somehow managed to put a pixelated effect on circular lines in Illustrator, it looks similar to the pencil crayon effect.  I cannot get rid of it.  I have deleted preference files, uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator, it is still there on files I know to be created with clean lines.  No changes to hardware, hardware settings or any other system parameters (as far as I know). Any thoughts?
